Room 8 Blog : August 2018
Kia ora whanau, my name is Jess Bell (known as Miss Bell or Whaea) and I am lucky enough to be Room 8's teacher this year. This is my first year teaching after studying at University of Waikato. I am grateful for the opportunity to be teaching here at Mountview School and I know 2019 is going to be an amazing year!
Room 8 is a Year 4/5 class and we are currently sitting at 17 boys and 13 girls. We have been building a strong community here in Room 8, focussing on getting to know one another and establishing expectations and routines which is important to make sure our year runs smoothly.
We cannot wait to see what the year will bring and we hope you will come along on the journey with us!
Students in Room 8 are discovering lots about the Human Brain, how it is made up and what the parts do. We are discovering how important it is to feed our bodies the right food for brain development. This has led us to looking at good food choices.
Here is a model of the brain we made from a paper bowl. It shows that the brain is responsible for all our thoughts, feelings, actions and memories.Posted: Saturday 18 August 2018
AS part of our healthy brain unit we made fruit smoothies. We walked to Paetiki shops to buy fresh fruit. We were in 4 groups and each group had $10 to spend. We wrote shopping lists and looked at the specials flyer to see how much things cost. It was fun spending our money. Some of us overspent so we couldn't afford to buy everything so we had to share fruit with others. It was a great life skill to learn.Posted: Saturday 18 August 2018
